Which Screen Mesh Do I Need?

Screen mesh isn't one size fits all. The right mesh depends on what you care about most: the view, your pets, the sun or the bugs. Here's a simple rundown.

Standard fiberglass (charcoal)

High visibility

Pet resistant

Solar

No-see-um

Standard fiberglass (charcoal)

Best for: most windows and doors.

This is our standard mesh. It's flexible, it won't dent the way metal mesh can, and the charcoal color is easy to see through. If you don't have a special need, this is the one.

High visibility

Best for: windows with a view you want to keep.

High-visibility mesh uses thinner strands, so you see more of what's outside and less of the screen. The tradeoff is that thinner mesh is a bit more delicate, so it's not the best pick for a door the dog uses.

Pet resistant

Best for: any door or low window your dog or cat can reach.

Pet-resistant mesh is much thicker and tougher than standard mesh. It holds up to claws, paws and noses. The tradeoff is that it's a little harder to see through, so most people use it only where pets are a problem.

Solar

Best for: south and west facing windows that get hot afternoon sun.

Solar mesh has a tighter, darker weave that blocks some of the sun's heat and glare before it hits the glass. It helps keep rooms cooler and cuts down on glare. The tradeoff is that the view is a little darker from inside.

No-see-um

Best for: homes near the lake, river or wetlands.

No-see-ums are tiny biting bugs that can slip right through standard mesh. No-see-um mesh has a tighter weave to keep them out. The tradeoff is slightly less airflow than standard mesh.

You can mix and match. Plenty of homes use standard mesh on most windows, pet-resistant mesh on the back door and solar mesh on the west side.

What does it cost?

Standard mesh is included in our repair estimates. Upgraded mesh is a small added cost, and we'll include it in your estimate. We'll always confirm your price before any work starts.
